13x13 original acrylic on canvas

Back in 2012 I did a summer study abroad at Universidad Veritas in San Jose, Costa Rica. I stayed with a lovely Costa Rican family for six weeks -- award-winning sculptor Francisco Chacon, his wife Julia, their daughter, Sandy, and Sandy's partner, Marianella. They had the most beautifully-decorated home full of Francisco's sculptures, and they were just the coolest people. On August 2, 2012, they asked me if I wanted to go for a walk to Cartago, and I said sure. I'm not sure I understood that we were going to be joining hundreds (maybe thousands) of people descending upon the city on Cartago for the annual pilgrimage to the Basílica de los Ángeles, so I was wholly unprepared for the day ahead and the party awaiting us at the church. For lunch, we stopped at the Sanchiri Mirador And Lodge, Provincia de Cartago, Costa Rica, for some pupusas and agua dulce. It was heaven, and this was our view.
