If you ever get a chance to stop at the Bandera Cinder Cone and Ice Cave, do it! I scheduled it as a stop for us because I thought it would be a kitschy little place to see, and a convenient rest stop. Instead of kitsch, we were met with pure magic. After we put down our jacks for the night, we ventured out to the ice cave, and it was INCREDIBLE. Such a cool little slice of history. (Literally, cool!) And when we came up and walked over to the cinder cone hiking trail.... hundreds, if not thousands, of hummingbirds were flitting around the campground. Their humming and chittering filled the air as we hiked up to the cinder cone at sunset. It was absolutely perfect.
