In 2012, I went to the Southwest Association of American Geographers conference in Las Cruces, NM, with a few other people from OU's Environmental Sustainability program. It was my first conference ever, and my first time in New Mexico. I fell in love with both. The energy of the conference, full of poster presentations and excitement over new ideas and fresh connections, combined with the otherworldly landscapes of New Mexico, was the perfect combination. There was an awards night out in Mesilla and that night, looking out over the mountains at dusk, I fell in love with New Mexico.
